Quick Pic

No time to blog today.
Dropping by with a quick pic.
Saw a picture of this online and thought it looked fun!
So I purchased some organic hotdogs and whole grain spaghetti
(to make it healthy fun)
and had at 'er!
What a hoot!
Kiddos were amused too.   ;0)

Quick Quote

Came up with a quote one day.
Actually, a jingle came with it in my head.

Happiness is hard to find
when you live your life through someone else's eyes.
~Lynn Retzlaff

This is for everyone who worries what others think.
A quote for the inner critique.
For anyone trying to live up to the standards of another.
You get my drift.

Stop worrying about what others think, what others may perceive,
stop self-criticize. Live authentically.
See the world through your own eyes.
Embrace it.
You get my drift.

Hoping it finds its way to the top baby!
Look at the world through your own eyes today
and
Happy Day To You!  :)

Creativity Kickin' In

Been playing
and
it feels GOOD!

Have some gorgeous vintage apothecary bottles
that I put up for sale

I am finding it extremely hard to part with them.
I want to keep them.
I have been collecting them.
I love them.

Need for income is beating down desire of posession.
My loss.
Someone else will gain.

So I got creative.

Took pictures and played.
Used a quote from
and backgrounds from
an uber talented and generous blogger

Now I have a wonderful picture of my beloved apothecary bottles!

An Interesting Journey

I was gone from Blogland last week.
Did you miss me?

It was a difficult and trying week.
End result - all is good.

Thank you to my two very special bloggy friends for your support.
You know who you are and I love you!

The Journey
Yesterday we (the family and I) decided to go for a drive.
We were only minutes out of town.
We turned down a road we have traveled before
but took it further than we ever had (which wasn't far).
We saw a road.
We turned again.
The first address we passed held mature landscaping
and what appeared to be a home ripped off its foundation.

A bit further down was another home.
Big and beautiful
and boarded up.

 Next to that, another.
This one with windows and screens broke out
where the boards were on the inside rather than the out.

At the end of the road
(opposite side)
was the biggest house of all.
When we first pulled up there was a hawk
perched at the tip of the garage.
Each home had a sign posted at the end of the driveway.
NO TRESPASSING

It was a short road along water.
Nothing but the few boarded up homes and empty fields.
A bit spooky actually.
As we left we wanted to know the name of the road.
Someone had stolen the sign.
The road remained nameless to us.
What was the story with these big beautiful homes?
Could it be contamination that drove the owners out?
Could it be the economy?
Failed development?

We decided to head back out.
Just yards down the road we passed a small turn-around and pulled in.
There was a stairway leading down to a lake
where a ghost of a tree lay silent.

Near the path we discovered more death.

We decided "That's enough of that!"
and piled back in the van.
Within yards we came upon another (much older) community.
Some of the houses were run down yet inhabited.
Others appeared abandoned.

 How strange.
The home was left with half the roof torn off
and a tarp remaining to cover.
It had obviously been a while since they decided not to finish the job.

On closer inspection, it appears as if someone has broken and entered
and forgot to close the door behind themselves.
Or perhaps it was the ghost owners peeking out at us
as we peeked in at them.

The whole experience was so intriguing and strange.
We drove a few more yards and came upon a curve in the road.
At the height of the curve is this mysterious farm
with its mysterious tree trunk fencing
and more NO TRESPASSING signs
assuring us that this was not the place to drop off the kids
for cookie sales!

The whole area was so mysterious and odd and intriguing.
What's the story behind it all?
What a cool low budget film hubby and I could make
heading back at dusk with our camcorder and imaginations!
Too bad we're both chicken shits!

My mind is still running wild with possibilities and stories.
The kid were intrigued as well.
I thought about nosing around to find the history on the area.
Then I thought of how the truth would take all the fun out.

How about you?
Does it get your storytelling juices flowing?

Play

Woke up.
Brought Darling Daughter clothes.
She replied, "I already have clothes picked out. See?"
She pointed at the wall next to the bed.
I looked...

...followed the arrow down to the pile of black clothing.
"Oh. Okay." I replied with smile and internal giggle.

I went to the kitchen to make lunches.
Darling Daughter arrived.

Yup. She's a pretty cool black agent alright!
God I just love her creativity, freedom of expression, imagination.
Do I smell a lesson here?

Wishing you a fun-filled
"cool black agent"
kind of weekend!

Greeting and a Wish

Happy St. Patty's Day
&
Luck O' The Irish to Ya!

A Wish for a Friend
Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after showers—
Miles and miles of Irish smiles
For golden happy hours—
Shamrocks at your doorway
For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through!

Will spend the day thinking about my grandmother today
as she was so very proud of our Irish heritage.
She made sure one of her last big trips
was a visit to Ireland
seeking heritage
and family.

~ I love you and miss you Grandma. ~

Flip Me The Bird

I was thinking about energy yesterday.
It tends to be a subject of importance to me.
Energy
Positive
Negative

How it affects us and why.
I tend to be a positive person by nature
but am quite sensitive to the negative.

I let others affect me more than they should have the ability to do.
My libra nature does not tolerate injustice well.
Why so much ugliness in the world?
Why would people want to hurt other people?

I have considered wearing a mirror necklace
to bounce any negative energy I encounter back to its source
but worry that I would also be keeping the positive away.
Are mirrors selective?
Doubt it.
They don't seem to have a problem sharing
good and bad news with me when I catch a glimpse of my own reflection!

Why does a random negative comment
or random roadway flip of the bird
affect me as much as it does?

How do I let it go?

Then it came to me!
Like Magic!
Or God talk.
Or perhaps it was my own bloody brilliance!

The next time I encounter someone negative,
have pity.
Perhaps they are having a very, very bad day.
Perhaps they need a hug.
Perhaps they're just an asshole in desperate need of an attitude adjustment.

Regardless the reason,
it is their problem, not mine.
Rather than try to reflect the negativity back at them,
(sometimes I imagine carrying a mirror and flashing it in someone's face when they are raging or getting nasty. can you imagine if they had to look themselves face at that moment? perhaps it would soften them and cause them to see what negativity can do to a person. how ugly it looks. perhaps they would laugh at themselves turning the frown into a smile. perhaps, just perhaps it would make them stop and think. perhaps they would choose to walk around looking pretty instead.)
I will allow it to pass over me,
above my head, out into space where it belongs.
The energy will be acknowledged, then allowed to pass on.
I will say a little prayer that they find happiness
but I will not let them steal mine.
From this moment forward I choose
love
peace
positivity.

--------------------------

Today I took my own advice.

Gertrude, my inner critic has been a real BITCH lately.
She is constantly flipping me the bird.
I tell her to scram, start living my life, and next thing you know
I have spent the entire day with her sitting on my shoulder whispering shitty little things to me.
Today, I bound her in duct tape, sat her on the chair
and made her watch me play.
Yes, PLAY!!!
When I started working I heard things like 'ugly, no good, fail, sucks, not going to happen'.
Once Gertrude was contained, I shared words with her like 'yes, can, allow, believe, imagine'.
This is what I created.
"Letting Go" encaustic
I'm quite in love with it!
So go ahead. Flip me the bird. I can take it.
Or better yet, share in the love!
May your day be full of love, peace and positivity.

Disaster

Today I am taking care of a sick little one and feeling
thankful (after watching the horrors in Japan)
for the ability to keep him warm
take him to the doctor
and hold him tight.

So much loss, so much devastation over seas.
May you count your blessings today
as I will be counting mine.

If you feel inclined to donate to relief efforts in Japan

A Prayer

God
grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.

I have come to the recent conclusion
that this prayer was created for those dealing with
TEENAGERS!!!!

Except they forgot the line...

and a whole lot of patience.

The Lair
This is home to my teenage son.
The Lair is headquarters of operation "How Far Can I Push Her"
and related operation "How Much Can I Get Away With".
Both continuous ongoing covert operations
taking place behind the locked door of the command center
with the aid of high tech gadgets and enemy army troops (other teenagers).
Included in said operations are the acts of
lying, treason, blasphemy and stealing
(all small scale but still punishable by death hard time).

Okay, okay, joking aside.
It's not that bad.
All my kids are good kids.
No really.
I know everyone says it, but mine really are!
As far as the teenage bullshit I'm dealing with?
Mild really.
Still...
I don't like being lied to and
I am frustrated with his inability to communicate.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I hear you.
I hear the collective...
"sounds like typical teenage boy behavior to me".
Well then...
YOU COME DEAL WITH IT!!!!

Just kidding.

I love my teen dude. He's a good guy.
He's learning and growing and testing the waters.
He's fun, funny, handsome, a family guy.
He still gives me daily hugs and shares with his little siblings
(when he's not harassing them).
He's waaaay better behaved than I was at that age.
Don't tell him that!!!
Of course I had good reason.   ;)

∞ • ∞ • ∞

Every new season blooms roses.
With those roses come thorns.
The flower offers beauty, scent, pleasure.
The thorns offer lessons.
You cannot have one without the other.

I vow for the rest of the day to let it go and play!!!!!
(encaustic piece I'm playing with)

p.s. my morning has been improved upon considerably
as I found out I won a give-a-way over at Beth's Awesome Blog!!!!
Thanks Beth!!!

Hug quotes

A hug is a handshake from the heart.
~Author Unknown

You can't give a hug without getting a hug.
~Author Unknown

A hug delights and warms and charms,
that must be why God gave us arms.
~Author Unknown

Millions and millions of years would still not give me half enough time
to describe that tiny instant of all eternity
when you put your arms around me
and I put my arms around you.  ~Jacques PrĂ©vert

Amazing (angelic) talent

Exhausted

Been away.
Did you miss me?
Guess where I was?
Vegas Baby!

First time I ever left the family.
I'm exhausted.

Went away for a trade show.
Stayed at a luxury hotel.
Good and bad in the trip.

good
food was amazing!!!!
four girls traveling together = lots of laughter
didn't lose money at the casino
watched an awesome band
flew without freaking out (too bad)
trip re-confirmed my love for my simple life

bad
one noise machine + one snorer + 3am bedtime = NO SLEEP!!!!
the place was freakin' expensive!!!
threw out my back BAD
smoke city in the casino
not my lifestyle (out of element)
missed flight home causing travel nightmare
came home to more BS political news (depressing)

Add exhaustion to pms and you have one moody blogger.
The following picture best represents my post-trip state.
Out of focus, dark, confused. Lots more to it. Let the picture speak.
If you have reached this point in your reading,
I thank you for taking the time. The support is appreciated.
