No Time

"I'm late! I'm late! For a very important date!"

Before I head out today
I wanted to share
these.

I'm trying to get more comfortable at putting myself out there. I am a student of encaustics. Not a perfectionist, not a brilliant artist, just someone who shows up to the medium to see what lessons it will be teaching me that day.

I am hoping to list them in my Etsy Shop soon.

Have a brilliant and lovely day!

Full

My head is full
swirling and twirling
mixing and hurling
words then thousand at a time.

Thoughts created
ruminated
settling in my mind.

I open the page
the cold blank stare
who will care
about the words they find.

The depth of thought
I ought not,
better to leave behind.

Write what you know
is what I'm told
but what I know
isn't always kind.

There is pain and fear
and horrors to hear
most wish to stay blind.

Perhaps write what you learn
little bird as you grow
the seeds that are sown
are much more refined.

Share the joy at the end
of the lessons my friend
then you'll do just fine.

But I know what I know
and perhaps others will grow
if they open their mind
and see life through my eyes.

The one thing I fear
yet pray to hear
"You have been found and you are divine."

I dive into the page
slowly finding my way
fear subsides as I transcribe
the mess from which I hide.

NaNoWriMo 2012 - Day 2

NaNoWriMo Day 2 - I made goal. Made the ticker on the right happy today. The words are flowing freely but the story is somewhat of a catastrophe compared to the perfect scenario I imagined. My inner critic is getting really pissed off that my inner child is running around messing up the place!
I must continue to remind myself that this is dumping grounds. First draft. Free style. No editing. No re-writes. No judgment.

Creative Juicing

Howdy Strangers!

It's been a while since I have been a regular blogger. The hiatus was well served and well deserved. Getting back into groove is proving harder than I thought it would be. In order to get my creative juices flowing, I have decided to tap into the ripe fruit of a local artist. This artist is so local, I simply turned around and asked some questions!

Interview with 9 y/o daughter
Interviewer (that's me!): "Why do you create so much art?"
Artist (Darling Daughter): "Because I have to and it makes me happy.
Interviewer: "How do you decide what you're going to make?"
Artist: "Ideas just pop into my head."
Interviewer: "When you are creating, do you always know how you want it to look when it's done?"
Artist: "No. Sometimes I start making something and it decides how it wants to be. Sometimes I just sit down to draw and the picture comes out."
Interviewer: "How do you know when it's done?"
Artist: "It's done when I say it's done."

Words of wisdom and lots of creative juice here!

Bow, arrows, and quiver  created with the help of creative brother. Quiver made of cardboard, gift wrap & yarn. Bow & arrows are made from bamboo and yarn. Shirt & necklace by Darling Daughter Designs.

This diorama was in an art show. See the little fishy in big fishy's mouth? Fish are ceramic. Underwater world made of paper and imagination. Rocks are the real deal.

Fairy-est

Crystal Ball,
Crystal Ball,
Do tell all.
Who's the fairy-est of them all?

Welcome to our fairy garden!

shh... I see one now!

welcome!

The boys abandoned the sandbox below the swing set long ago.
After years of trucks and shovels excavating the prime real estate,
Darling Daughter and I thought it was time to develop.
No high rises here! We created a welcoming little neighborhood for flowers, bunnies and fairies! Shh... I think I see one now!

Busy, busy, dreadfully busy...

My first born graduates this weekend.
I had full intention of putting out a heartfelt,
well thought out post about this mountain of a milestone.

As would be expected, I'm too busy to blog about it!
Instead, I will post a picture of the pretty beanbags I made for the beanbag toss.

So quick and easy and it turns out the family loves them!
They've been practicing juggling, playing catch,
and making up various games aside from the originally intended beanbag toss.

It doesn't take much time to make them.
If you have some scrap fabric laying around, I highly recommend you make some!
Fun for the whole family!

p.s. I cheated. They're really filled with rice.

Fun Job

Last week a friend was fretting.
She was completely bent out of shape over others opinions of her.
So I stated a long known truth.

She loved what I said so much she hired me
to make a sign for a friend's bar.
It was to look rustic and worn and state the simple truth.

Some jobs are so much fun!

It's your choice whether you care for other people's.   ha ha ha!

Too often we... enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.  ~John F. Kennedy
